Here is a list of our presenters
for the 2012 Creative Arts Demonstrations!
(Scroll down for week schedule & Rules for the Quilting Block Challenge!)

Dutch Oven Dessert Done Right   -Monday, Sept 3rd @ 1:00pm
Lisa Griggs of Two Women Plus: “We are a family dutch oven catering business, Mom and Daughter the plus part is the most important, it is jobs that will teach our kids and grandkids better work ethic.
“We will be preparing Dutch Oven cobbler, starting with prep of a dutch oven, combining the ingredients, how to cook with charcoals, and of course tasting!”

Don’t Let Rulers Rule You  -Wednesday, Sept. 5th @11:45am
Julia Wareing: "I have been sewing since I was 12 years old. Mostly self-taught, by trial and error. I have always loved quilts but thought they would be to overwhelming to tackle. I threw all caution  and doubts to the wind in about 2006 and made my first quilt. I have never looked back! I love it and I am totally addicted to any and everything quilty! If I can't find time to sew, I can at least squeeze in a few moments to at least pet my fabric! A day is not complete until needle, thread and fabric meet! I will be demonstrating various rulers that will make some of your cutting and piecing more accurate and fun! Rulers and gadgets can be a quilter’s best friends!"

Fabric Photos and Quilt Labels  -Wednesday, Sept. 5th @ 1:00pm
Connie Tabor:  “My demo is about printing on fabric using your computer.  This is an easy way to print whatever you want to on any fabric. This can be pictures, sayings, or whatever you want to put on fabric by using your inkjet printer.”

 Cathedral Windows  -Wednesday, Sept. 5th @ 2:00pm
Doris Coffey: “I have been quilting for over 30 years and am more of a "Traditional" quilter.  I have always wanted to make the Cathedral Windows pattern, but wasn't ready to do that much handwork, until the last few years.  When it was demonstrated in our Blackfoot Piecemaker's Club, I jumped on it, went to web sites, and realized very little was written on the subject.  I just started with the info that was available and then refined it with trial and error.

“The Cathedral Window pattern is not like a "traditional" quilt as it is not a sandwich with 3 layers of front, back and batting.  It is a very old pattern from the old South where warmth was not needed, but wanted a coverlet to look good on the beds.  That is why you mostly see these old quilts with varied colored scraps - they used what was available.  It is a very friendly "take along" portable project!”

Teaming up with a LongArmer  -Wednesday, Sept. 5th @ 3:00pm
Susan Nelsen, Designer, Author, Quilter, Editor
How do you find a longarm quilter? What do you bring to the quilter? How big should the quilt backing be? What kind of batting? What kind and color of thread? How do you want your project quilted? How long will it take to get the project quilted? How much will it cost? These and other questions will be answered in this presentation.

Susan is the owner and designer of Rasmatazz Designs. She has been a longarm quilter for more than ten years and has won awards for her quilting. Besides quilting, she has written several books of quilt designs and quilting techniques.

Crystals and More Quilt Embellishments  -Wednesday, Sept. 5th @ 4:00pm
Kat Blakely: “I have loved Art all my life. I received my first blue ribbon when I was 8 years old. I have been quilting for 40 years but they were traditional quilts until 10 years ago, when I combined my love for both into Art Quilts. I won a red ribbon at The Houston Quilt Show with $1,000 prize for an embellished wall hanging.
            “Crystals are my favorite embellishment.”

Creative Cupcake Creations  -Friday, Sept. 7th @ 9:30am
Katherine Allen:  “About 8 years ago, I decided that I wanted to learn how to decorate cakes.  My sister –in-law was getting married, so I thought, well what a better time!  I asked her if I could make her cake, and she said yes!  It turned out pretty good, tasted good, and I was even given complements!  But I knew there was so much more to learn.  I took the Wilton classes, and instruction from friends & my sister, but most has come by trial and error.   I love to do all kinds of cakes, from birthday to wedding!

I will be demonstrating some techniques on cupcakes.  Coring, many different flavors of  frosting using a butter cream base.  We will also go over many different fillings, tips to be used for drop flowers & decorating.  Hopefully we can even learn how to make a candy rose & a bit about fondant!!”

Keeping it Fresh:  Today’s Floral Designs  -Friday, Sept. 7th @ 10:30am
DaNae Smith has been an accredited retail and event florist for over 20 years in Boise and Idaho Falls area. Having a great interest in many areas of the horticulture field, she currently enjoys the best of both worlds in her own business of free-lance floral design and caring for residential and commercial flower gardens in the area. She recently finished her Bachelor's degree (horticulture emphasis) and begins her Graduate degree work this fall. DaNae loves to share her love of “all things horticulture” so her long-term goals include becoming an educator in Horticulture/Floral Design at the university level.
DaNae will be demonstrating examples of the fun and modern design possibilities with fresh floral and botanicals. Perhaps another title to her presentation could be described as "Modern Foral Design: Not Your Grandma's flowers". From flowers to wear (Bridal and prom) to "fun"ky florals for home or business--come see the fresh face of the art of floral design!

10-Minute Meals  -Friday, Sept. 7th @ 11:30am
Nola Harris: “I am a stay at home mom and have made meals for my family for over 25 years now, if I can’t make something in 10 minutes, I have less time for other things, and I would much rather do other things most of the time!  I look forward to sharing tips on how to put together a meal in 10 minutes and then we will have a little competition to see how well I have taught the audience.”

Creative Gift Giving  -Friday, Sept. 7th @ 12:30pm
Whitney Galbraith: “This is my third year demonstrating at the fair. I enjoy being with my children, traveling, reading, sewing and writing.”

“My demonstration will focus on creative gift giving. I hope to stimulate thoughts on ways to build and lift those around you with ideas in simple and inexpensive gifts. We will discuss the obvious and not-so-obvious occasions for gift giving. We will talk about packaging, delivery and ideas for clever gifts.”
Whitney and her family!

Simplify! Scrapbook Online -Friday, Sept. 7th @ 1:30pm
Deidra Smith:  “Do you have boxes or memory cards full of pictures and don’t know what to do with them?  Come join us for a fun class geared towards getting all of those pictures put into books that you and your family can enjoy for years to come.  We will discuss some of the options available to you.  And then we’ll dive right into the demonstration of my favorite website.  All you need to know is very basic computer skills: how to navigate the web, and how to save pictures in specified files on your computer and then we will teach you the rest!

Take Your Bread to the Next Level  -Friday, Sept. 7th @ 4:00pm
Julie Beck:  "Bread took me along time to figure out, once I did, I have loved it!   We love scones and bread at our house. I wanted to learn how to make bread for my 3 boys, when they come home after school, they often come home to the smell of freshly baked bread. They love it and so do I. It is cheaper for my family and we all get the benefits!  Bread can be a bit funny sometimes; you have to learn some tricks.  I have been through many trial and errors before I have perfected it!  I will show you what I have learned!"

More Desserts to Die For -Friday, Sept. 7th @ 5:30pm
Kristie Scott:  “My theme is taking something you love and doing it a variety of ways...
So for instance last year I did that cheesecake, but this year, I'm going to do a mini version in cupcake form and also a cookie form.

“Then I'm going to talk about favorite flavors...my husband loves coconut so I'm going to show a variety of ways to infuse that flavor into desserts.”

We would like to give a BIG Thank You to all of our presenters!
